BuddyUp Project: We are Looking for Volunteers to Help Vulnerable People Increase their Social Contact

June 9, 2019

Do you want to support people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic? Are you looking for experience in social care? Would you like to give back to your community? If this sounds like you, Ness M Foundation may have the perfect opportunity for you!

Ness M Foundation (NMF) is launching their new Buddy-Up project. The aim of the project is to build up vulnerable people’s social contact as they slowly emerge from shielding. It is in place to provide lonely people within the local Peterborough community companionship. Putting weekly meet ups in place – ranging from a walk in the park or meeting at a café – will make a significant difference to the lives of the people impacted most by the pandemic.

To support the rollout of this project, NMF are currently seeking volunteers to offer their time to meet an individual on a one-to-one basis. This is a great opportunity to reconnect with the people in your community, whilst providing invaluable support to those who most need it. This experience would be great for young adults that are interested in a career in the healthcare sector

NMF is a charity that aims to improve the lives of people who are cared for at home, as well as supporting their carers. COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on the way that community care charities operate, with NMF being no exception. Throughout 2020, they had to adapt the way that they function, to ensure that they are able to continue providing the safest support for their beneficiaries.

All of the people that NMF support have been identified as high-risk individuals, meaning that they were faced with no option but to shield during the pandemic. This has had a hugely detrimental impact on their work, as NMF’s main goal is to tackle loneliness in the local community across Peterborough. The lockdown restrictions have inflicted a prolonged period of social isolation that has been felt across the entire country, but it has particularly impacted those that were already engaging in minimal social contact.
